What Is It?
NEXXALON™ Flame Retardant Unfilled Compound is a PA6 grade formulated with non-halogenated flame retardant additives, meeting V2, V0, and GWIT flammability ratings without glass or mineral reinforcement.
How It's Manufactured
Flame retardant additive packages are melt-compounded into the PA6 resin on a twin-screw extruder at controlled temperature — flame retardant additives can be heat-sensitive and moisture-reactive, so processing temperature and residence time are tightly controlled to avoid degrading the additive's effectiveness during compounding.
Manufacturing Process for This Application
Relay bases are injection molded from the dried FR compound. Parts that sit next to live current-carrying contacts are designed with wall sections thin enough to mold cleanly but thick enough to meet the target flammability rating at that specific thickness, since UL 94 and GWIT ratings are thickness-dependent.
Why Polymer Choice Matters Here
An electrical part positioned next to switching contacts or a relay coil has to resist ignition and, if it does ignite, must not drip flaming material — a non-flame-retardant PA6 grade simply does not meet the safety requirement regardless of its mechanical properties, making flame retardancy the primary polymer-selection criterion here, ahead of strength.
