Which Compound to Use to Manufacture a PC/ABS Mobile Housing

What Is It?

NEXXALAC™ Unfilled PC/ABS Compound blends polycarbonate and ABS resins to combine PC's impact strength and heat resistance with ABS's processability and lower cost.

How It's Manufactured

PC and ABS resins are melt-blended together on a twin-screw extruder at a processing temperature that suits both components — getting a stable, well-mixed PC/ABS blend batch to batch is itself a compounding skill, since the two base resins have different melt behaviour.

Manufacturing Process for This Application

Mobile housings, chargers, and telecom equipment parts are injection molded from the dried PC/ABS blend, using PC/ABS's characteristically good flow to fill thin-walled, complex consumer electronics geometry without the higher processing temperature pure PC would demand.

Why Polymer Choice Matters Here

Pure ABS alone would be more prone to cracking on drop and softening near a charging device's heat-generating components; pure PC alone would cost more and process at a higher temperature than the thin-walled housing geometry needs — the PC/ABS blend is chosen specifically to land between these two tradeoffs.
