Which Compound to Use to Manufacture an Electrical Connector
What Is It?
NEXXALITE™ Unfilled PBT Compound is a polybutylene terephthalate resin known for high strength and rigidity, low moisture absorption, and reproducible mould shrinkage.
How It's Manufactured
PBT resin is compounded with heat stabilizers on a twin-screw line — PBT's crystalline structure gives it fast, consistent mould release and shrinkage behaviour, which is one of the properties this compounding step is calibrated to preserve rather than disrupt.
Manufacturing Process for This Application
Connectors, valve parts, and sensor housings are injection molded from PBT pellets using rapid molding cycles that the resin's fast crystallization enables. Because PBT's shrinkage is highly reproducible batch to batch, connector pin-spacing tolerances hold consistently across a high-volume production run.
Why Polymer Choice Matters Here
An electrical connector housing needs to hold precise pin-to-pin spacing over its service life and resist moisture ingress at the contact interface — a polymer with higher or less predictable moisture absorption than PBT would shift dimensionally in humid conditions exactly where tight tolerance matters most.
Why This Compound Is Suited
PBT's low moisture absorption, high heat deflection temperature, and excellent electrical properties are specifically why it is used for "Valve parts, Oil filter parts, Bearing gauges, Connectors, Handle & Sensors" — connectors are a core, listed application.
Nexxa Compounds is a leading manufacturer of PBT compounds for electrical connector applications in India, supplying some of the largest manufacturers across India and internationally.
